Dryden Memorial School is a Pre-K-Grade 5 school. Our philosophy promotes a student-centered focus and an educational community that supports growth of mind, body, and citizenship. Our educators and staff actively pursue many opportunities to continue growing and learning alongside our students. We at Dryden want to ensure that we lead by example in the mission of Springfield Public Schools to uphold a culture of equity and proficiency.

We deliver data-driven, standards-based instruction, implementing the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Digital Literacy & Computer Science and the nationally recognized: Next Generation Science Standards. We design our instruction at Dryden with these standards in mind, as we differentiate to meet the needs of all of our students. We work in collaboration to plan with the context of the needs of the students we have in front of us, who change year to year, along with their academic, emotional and social needs.

Dryden is a small school, with a lot going on! In conjunction with our rigorous curriculum and instruction, our educators, staff, parents and students work to bring in many extracurricular opportunities. We have a student council. We incorporate college and career awareness throughout the year, at all levels. Students in grades K-2 participate in Readers' Theater. Readers' Theater is a creative and interactive program in which students perform scripts to make ;stories come alive.” It helps build reading fluency and comprehension. We have ;Dryden's Sunshine Garden”, a place where our school community goes to learn about the process of growing and maintaining a community garden with our Garden Coordinator. We participate with Links to Libraries, and are excited to work with Westfield State University as our partner. Dryden is home to the Jim Trelease Library, which provides us the ability to update our school library with new, high-quality literature. We are a partner with the Community Music School's ;Sonido Musica”, which provides our fourth and fifth grade students the opportunity to participate in a chorus, learn a string orchestra instrument, and to perform throughout our larger community of Springfield and Holyoke.

A huge asset to our Dryden community, is our dedicated and active PTO. Their fundraising and advocacy has brought many enriching experiences in and out of the classroom to our students over the years. Our school has a YouTube channel that houses video of the various resources that are available to students in and out of school.

The commitment of all Dryden stakeholders in providing our kids with an enriched, authentic academic environment that values the whole-child, empowers them to achieve and succeed in the 21st century.
