Getting Back to School Safely

Message from Principal Theresa Carrie:

Greetings Dryden Families,

First, let me thank you for your support and understanding as we, as a nation and community, responded to the unexpected invasion of COVID-19 in March of 2020.  I am very proud of the way Dryden School students, parents, and staff members handled the demands we were faced with to protect everyone as we continued to educate our students during the most unusual of circumstances. As you know, there are plans to reopen on April 5th, 2021. While we are in the business of educating, our priority is the safety of our students and our employees. Be assured, we have been working diligently on our Dryden School Reentry Plans. Our staff has been planning for increased safety procedures that can be taken at our school. Please note the following changes:

  1. Building Entry – Parents must make an appointment to enter the building. Please call the school at 413-787-7248, to schedule an appointment to enter the building. Parents will not be allowed in the building without an appointment.

  2. Arrival/Dismissal - To ensure social distancing, we have made significant changes to our arrival procedures. Teachers will post their arrival and dismissal locations and procedures on their Class DoJo.

  3. Late Arrival- Any student arriving after 8:50 AM will be considered late.

  4. Early Dismissal – If a student needs to be dismissed early (has an appointment) please call the school ahead of time to inform them, 413-787-7248.

  5. Social Distancing – All students and a staff member will engage in social distancing, 6 feet at all times. The classrooms have been arranged with desks 6 feet apart. All students and staff members are expected to follow the social distancing guidelines.

  6. Uniforms- Students are encouraged to wear a uniform to school on a daily basis.  Students can wear a white, light blue or dark blue top and pants can be dark blue or khaki.

  7. Technology – All students will need to bring their laptops charged to school daily.  Students will also need to bring their chargers to school daily.

  8. Parent-Teacher Conferences, IEP Meetings, and STAT- All meetings will continue to take place via Zoom.  When these meetings are scheduled with parents, staff members will provide parents with the Zoom link to attend the meeting.

  9. Masks- Students are required and expected to wear a mask while in school.  We will have mask breaks during the school day.

  10. Health- If your child is not feeling well please do not send them to school.  If you send your child to school with a COVID-19 Symptom, your child will be evaluated by our school nurse and will be sent home. Any student who needs assistance from the nurse will wait in their classroom. The nurse will come to the classroom and assess the student.

  11. Breakfast/Lunch - Breakfast and lunch will take place in the classrooms. Students may bring their lunch from home or receive the school lunch. Protocols for safely obtaining and disposing of breakfast and lunch will be practiced by the teachers and students.

  12. Bathroom procedures – Times will be scheduled by grade level for bathrooms. Students are also allowed to use the bathroom as needed. Students will bring a clip and place it outside the bathroom. This way students will not enter if the bathroom is occupied. Lines have been placed outside of the bathroom, 6 feet apart, for students to wait.

  13. Supplies – Any school supplies will be kept in the student’s backpack during the day. Backpacks will be hung on the back of the chairs.

I encourage our parents to frequently visit our website ( and follow our Class Dojo page for up to date and accurate information. Our priority is to keep everyone safe as we begin with in-person learning.  I am confident that by working together we will keep students and staff safe.  I am always available should you have any questions.
